Nothing brings a room together quite like a high-quality woven area rug under your feet.
From easily covering stains and worn carpets to adding color and interest to your living spaces, area rugs will transform your room in a way only a few other things could do. The only problem, however, is keeping this rug in place!
If you’re placing your rug on the carpet, you want to make sure you prevent this from slipping and sliding as these can cause accidents. If this excites you, here’s our guide on how to keep rugs from slipping on carpet.
Quality is important
People rave about our luxury sports rugs, how they are heavy, and less likely to slip like light, lower quality rugs. This is just one of the reasons why it makes sense to go for quality if you’re in the market for an area rug.
Fortunately, these rugs won’t cost you an arm and a leg and are more likely to stay in place under your feet. If you’re keen on how to keep rugs from slipping on carpet, going for high-quality rugs will make much difference, to begin with.
Use anti-slip mats
Anti-slip mats can provide some extra padding in between rugs and carpets to make the rugs less likely to slip. There are thick and thin options; however, depending on what you want.
Thick pads tend to add cushion to hard floors along with its non-slip surface. The thin options are also great though you’ll need to buy a thin pad or a non-slip rubber shelf liner to ensure the rug stays in place. Whichever type you want to go for, you’ll be better off with a carpet-to-carpet option, made from polyester material. These types will reduce damage to your rugs and won’t require frequent replacement like rubber mats.
Anchor your rug with furniture
You can also consider using some of the furniture pieces you already have to anchor your rug. These can include things like coffee tables, buffets, your couch, bed, or anything that works. You’ll need to allow these to overlap somehow on the rug to hold it in place. While most interior designers hate to see this, it can actually make a great sight if done correctly. Although you may still need to apply sticky tape under some parts of the rug, you won’t need that much. If you’ve been looking for ways on how to keep rugs from slipping on carpet, this is perhaps the simplest fix.
Consider using sticky tape
You can also use double-sided sticky tape to hold both the rug and carpet in place. This can be used sparingly around the edges and in the center for extra strength.
The problem, in this case, is that the accumulation in the space between the rug and carpet will make the tape lose its adhesive quality, over time. You should also avoid using strong tapes as these can leave residues behind that can stain your rugs. This is not something you’d like if your rug is an expensive, high-quality type.
Caulk inexpensive rugs
Caulking with a bead of silicone caulk also makes sense, but it’s not something many people would like to do with expensive area rugs. You can run the bead of caulk along the edges on the back of the rug, and then a few lines in the middle.
After you’ve applied the silicone, you’ll have to flatten the bead using a putty knife or something similar. When the silicone caulk dries, you can then place the rug on the carpet. The dried caulk will hold the rug against the carpet and prevent it from slipping.
Any of these solutions on how to keep rugs from slipping on a carpet will work effectively, and you can always choose any one you’re most comfortable with. Whatever you decide to do, going for a high-quality, heavy rug in the first place will help you avoid most of these problems.
If you’re in the market for an area rug, only a few others come close to the level of quality and aesthetic appeal of our luxury sports rugs.
