Flattening out Area Rugs
The solution to losing creases, wrinkles, dents, etc. is to flatten them out. To achieve this, you can follow the understated guidelines:
- You can start by back-rolling the rug. To do this, all you need to do is to roll your rug in the opposite direction and allow it to stay rolled for some hours before unrolling.
- You can also apply some heat to your rugs to flatten them out, depending on the material your rug is made from. Rug materials like nylon are highly susceptible to burning, hence, caution should be applied with regard to exposure to high temperatures.
- Spread the rug over a clean, flat, concrete surface and apply some steam from a pressing iron over. Alternatively, you can spread it out on a sunny day and allow it to sit out for some hours. You can also use a hand dryer or any other heating device so long as you are careful enough to regulate the heat so it doesn’t burn or melt your rug. When using heating devices, make sure that such a device is at least 6 inches away from the rug. A sweeping motion is also the best for steaming rugs.
- Stretching your rugs can also help to remove wrinkles and creases. Stretching should be done by pulling the rug slowly at both ends and at regular intervals to avoid damaging the rugs.
- By simply placing a piece of hard furniture over the creases and leaving it for some time under the weight, you can successfully flatten your rugs out.
- Another method is to apply carpet tape on the back of the affected parts, pressing the tape firmly while also smoothening as you remove the paper part of the tape.
